WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - A fire broke out in the employee break room at a White Plains wellness center Thursday afternoon, said Deputy Chief Mark Farrell of the White Plains Fire Department.

The blaze was contained to the one room, but the contents of the room were destroyed, said Farrell, who responded with two fire engines to Santhigram Wellness on 1305 Mamaroneck Ave. at about 4:25 p.m. Firefighters put out the blaze in about five minutes, he said. Some smoke damage was reported, he said, but no one was injured.

The right northbound lane of Mamaroneck Avenue across from the entrance to Saxon Woods Pool was still blocked at 5 p.m. by the fire engines and police. The origin of the fire was under investigation, Farrell said.

Just before the incident, the fire department had responded a blaze at a home on Chatterton Avenue. A candle left on a windowsill caused the fire in the third-floor attic, fire officials said. The fire burned through the wall to the exterior of the home, Farrell said. No one was injured.
