Bernard Pease, 54, was accused of trying to leave the store on Jan. 12 without paying for the two items. Walmart security chased after him, then flagged down police and pointed out the suspect on Main Street. Police said they caught up with Pease near Mamaroneck Avenue, where he allegedly threw the Nook away.
He was arrested and charged with two counts of petit larceny, a misdemeanor, and held for arraignment in city court.
Store security told police Pease had worked at Walmart for five years and that they saw him take the Nook out of the returns area and hide it in his pants. They also told police that they saw him the day before cut off the security tag from a Samsung Boost Mobile phone and hide it in his pants pocket.

On Jan. 13, employees of the 7-11 at 167 Martine Ave. reported that a man stole 21 cans of Red Bull worth $53.49 from the store.
They told police that a man later identified as James Ray, 49, hid the cans under his sweatshirt and tried to leave the store without paying. When asked if he would be paying for the items, he ran from the store.
Store employees chased him into Macy’s across the street and lost him inside, but recovered the cans of Red Bull. Police later found a man fitting the description of the suspect at the intersection of S. Lexington Avenue and Main Street. He was arrested and held for arraignment.
