WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Donald Joseph Keinz, the deputy chief of the White Plains Fire Department and a resident of Thornwood, died June 28 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 60.
Born and raised on Battle Hill in White Plains, he graduated from White Plains High School in 1969. He had a long career with the White Plains Fire Department, rising to the rank of deputy chief and overseeing the city's training and emergency management operations.
He was married to the former Ann Marie Pelle, who survives him. Keinz is also survived by a son, Bryan (Danielle) Keinz, of Hillsdale, N.J.; a daughter, Emily Keinz, of New York City; two stepsons, Sean (Terese) McGowan, of Denver, Colo. and Chris McGowan, of Washington, D.C. He was predeceased by his parents, Doris Joan Rowe Keinz and William A. Keinz Sr. and a brother, William A. Keinz Jr.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in White Plains. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
