Shirley M. Gustavson, 90, Longtime White Plains Resident

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Shirley M. Gustavson, a longtime resident of New Rochelle and White Plains, died Dec. 2. She was 90.

Gustavson was Sept. 20, 1923. For over 30 years, she worked as a secretary for the New Rochelle Board of Education. She was a member of the Swedish Evangelical Covenant Church in New Rochelle. She was also a volunteer with the White Plains Literacy Program, teaching reading skills.

Gustavson is survived by her daughter, Carole (Bill) Heitmann; son, Bradford (Ruby) Gustavson; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five “adopted” grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Bert Gustavson; and daughter, Sandra.

Calling hours are Wednesday, Dec. 4 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home Inc., 491 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains. Funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 conducted by the family. at the funeral home. Interment at the Kensico Cemetery, Lakeview Ave., Valhalla.
