WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Nelson (Bill) E. Asiel of White Plains died Aug. 5. He was 96.
Asiel was born and raised in New York and Elberon, N.J. He graduated from Yale University in 1939 and Yale Law School in 1942, after which he worked for the law firm, Simpson, Thatcher and Bartlett for close to 10 years. He joined the family business, Asiel and Company, started by his grandfather in 1878, becoming a senior managing member. Eventually the firm joined with Tradition(NA)Inc. He retired at age 90 after a career of over 50 years in the industry. He served on the Boards of the Burke Rehabilitation Center and the Child Daycare Center in White Plains.
Asiel is survived by children, Harold (Pat), Terri (Henry) and John (Diane); two grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Bettty Lehman Asiel; and sister, Doris Asiel Meyer.
Visiting hours are Friday, Aug. 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. at McMahon Lyon Hartnett Funeral Home in White Plains. Funeral will be private.
