Marjorie D. Filip, 94, Former White Plains Resident

YONKERS, N.Y. - Marjorie D. Filip of Yonkers died Dec. 5. She was 94.

Filip was born Oct. 13, 1919, in New York City; daughter of John and Margaret Benko. She attended St Jean Baptiste High School and graduated summa cum laude from Hunter College. After college she worked in the Chancery Office of the Archdiocese of New York. In 1960 after her marriage she settled with her husband in White Plains. She continued to live in White Plains until 2008 when she moved to Yonkers.

Filip was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church for several decades. She participated in the Mothers Club of Our Lady of Sorrows School, the St Agnes Women’s Guild, and the OLS Seniors Group. She worked at St. Bernard's School as a secretary, and as the switchboard operator at Archbishop Stepinac High School. She did volunteer work in the office at Our Lady of Sorrows Church.

Filip is survived by her daughters, Barbara Drouin (Donald), Christina Clark (Eric) and Susan; sons, John, Robert and fiancé, Teresa Garofalo, and Peter (Randi); nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and sister-in- law, Eugenia Filipowski. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Lucien Filip; daughter, Regina; and sisters, Annette Benko and Rosaline Holmok.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in White Plains.
