Lou Fortunate, 75, Of White Plains, Master Church Organist

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Lou Fortunate of White Plains died May 5. He was 75.

Fortunate was born June 20, 1938, in Detroit, Mich., to Leo L. and Josephine M. Fortunate. He was awarded a four-year scholarship to the University of Detroit Jesuit High School. He moved to New York., and made catechetical music with Sadlier Corporation. He was an employee of the Archdiocese of N.Y., as a master church organist and director of music at St. Raymond’s parish in the Bronx and St. Bernard’s and Our Lady of Sorrows parishes in White Plains over a span of close to 40 years.

Fortunate is survived by his wife, Maryfaith; children, Bob, Dianne (Amado), Terry, Tony (Jaime) and Carrie (Don); eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Sandy Moore and Karen Tharpe; brother-in-law, Sam Walker; and a niece and nephews.

Calling hours are Wednesday, May 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, May 8 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McMahon Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home in White Plains, followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12 p.m. Friday, May 9 at The Church of St. Bernard in White Plains.
