Longtime Westchester Volunteer Debbie Marello Dies At 59

Debra Marello, a long-standing Westchester-Putnam Council volunteer passed away Sunday, April 2. She was 59.

Marello had been involved with Scouting for over 20 years and held various positions starting when her sons were Cubs and Boy Scouts in Valhalla. She was an Ordeal Member of the Order of the Arrow, served as University of Scouting faculty, and earned her Woodbadge beads.

She served as Mohican District Advancement Chair and most recently as a member of Westchester-Putnam Council Executive Board & Audit Committee Chair,

Marello was recognized for her outstanding service to youth with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award in 2013. She was especially proud of her sons, one of whom achieved Eagle Scout and the other Life Scout.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 1-3 p.m. and again from 6-9 p.m. at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home, located at 418 Bedford Rd. in Pleasantville. 

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday at Valhalla United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. 

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Westchester-Putnam Council, Boy Scouts of America to establish a permanent endowment fund in Marello's honor for camp scholarships at Camp Read.
