She was born in New York City on April 11, 1944, the daughter of Harold Schneider and Natalie Perkins Schneider.
She graduated from public schools in Brooklyn, N.Y., (PS 199 and Madison High School), received a bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College, and received a New York State Teacher Certificate. She always sought to learn more in her profession with graduate courses, particularly at the Bank Street College and Brooklyn College.
She was an active member of the Civil Rights movement and marched with Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma, Ala., and participated in other marches and demonstrations.
She taught preschool and elementary school for many years in the Head Start and other programs, and she touched young lives with songs and guitar music.
Grubin developed her painting and drawing talents through the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Art Students League, the Educational Alliance Art School, the Brooklyn Museum Art School, and continuing education workshops in Westchester County.
In her later years, she was also a lover of nature and particularly enjoyed the New York Botanical Gardens.
She is survived by her daughter, Eve Grubin, son-in-law Stewart, and grandson Zecharya Chaim Grubin-Brookes of London; sister Judith Schneider Bond Bradley (Gaylen) of Durham, N.C.; nephew Kevin Bond Bradley (wife Gloria and their children Natalie and Hazel); Aunt Cookie; and many cousins, family members and friends.
Funeral and burial services were held on Monday, June 16, at Beth Moses Cemetery, Long Island.
