He grew up in Bellport and earned a bachelor’s degree from Brown University in 1975.

Lanman then worked for several years as an English teacher and soccer coach at his alma mater, the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Mass.

He then worked as a children’s book editor at Frederick S. Warne Publishing Co. He also was a vice president and editorial director at Atheneum Books for Young Readers, a division of Simon & Schuster.

Lanman decided to pursue a legal career and graduated magna cum laude in 2004 from Pace University School of Law.

He practiced law for more than 10 years with several firms. He retired in 2014 from Walsh & Amicucci LLP in Purchase.

Survivors include three sons, Adam, Ben, and Nate; his father-in-law, Sid Eudene; two brothers, George and David; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, July 18, at the Christ Episcopal Church, 64 South Country Road, Bellport.

A reception will follow at the Bellport Country Club, 40 South Country Road, Bellport.

Ballard-Durand Funeral & Cremation Services, White Plains, is handling the arrangements.
