Iris Mae Davis-Grant, 63, White Plains Resident

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Iris Mae Davis-Grant died Saturday, May 21 in her home in White Plains. She was 63.

She was born July 29, 1952, in Swansea, S.C., to the late Thomas Livingston and Marian Davis. The widow of Joseph M. Grant Jr. of Mount Vernon, she graduated from Mercy College in 1975. 

She had a 31-year career with the Department of Social Services in the Mandated Preventive Services, Child Protective Services, Housing and Homeless Services. She had various titles in the Mount Vernon, Yonkers and White Plains district offices. She was a pillar of the community, known for her love, compassion, energy and endless giving spirit. She was involved in the Relay for Life, Young Marines program of White Plains and was the Westchester County coordinator for the Marine Corps Toys 4 Tots.

She is survived by her daughter, Kira Freeman; brothers and sisters; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved family members.

Viewing hours will be from 5-9 p.m. Thursday and a wake will be conducted from 7-9 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 188 Orawaupum St., White Plains. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will take place at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla.
