Harvey L. Bender, 68, Of White Plains, Music Teacher And Conductor

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Harvey L. Bender, a lifelong resident of White Plains, died Dec. 15. He was 68.

Bender was born in Brooklyn; son of Dr. and Mrs. Sidney Bender. He was a professional percussionist who studied at Ithaca College and the Juilliard School and started performing with symphonies when he was 12 years old and went on to become a music teacher and conductor of musical theater. He served as a police officer with the North Salem Police Department and volunteered as an auxiliary police officer in White Plains.

Bender is survived by his sister, Dr. Barbara Bender; aunt and uncle, Naomi and William Schlossberg; many cousins; extended family members; and friends. He was predeceased by his parents.

Calling hours are Dec. 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m. at 55 Lincoln Ave., White Plains. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18 at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Ave., White Plains, NY 10601.
