Harriet Kessler, 97, Longtime White Plains Resident

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Harriet Lindenbaum Kessler, a longtime White Plains resident, died Oct. 26 in Colorado. She was 97.

Born Oct. 8, 1915, in Manhattan, she was a daughter of Mayer and Anna Lindenbaum. She was married to Dr. Benjamin Kessler, DDS. for 52 years.

Kessler graduated from Hunter College High School in 1933. She graduated from Hunter College in the Bronx, N.Y., in 1964 and earned a master's degree in education from the City University of New York in 1969. Kessler worked as an elementary school teacher at P.S. 24 in Riverdale, N.Y.

Her husband predeceased her.

She is survived by two children, Matthew J. (Ava Gaa-Ojeda) Kessler, of Shrewsbury, Mass., and Miles B. (Gail M. Shands) Kessler, of Englewood, Colo.; two sisters, Irma Rafal, of New York, and Doris Pinsky Kaplan, of Florida; and four grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m,. Friday, at Sharon Gardens Cemetery in Vahalla. Riverside Memorial Chapel in Mount Vernon is handling arrangements.
