Bailey, who was a minister at United Methodist Churches in White Plains and Mamaroneck, serving as fire chaplain for the Mamaroneck Volunteer Fire Department, died May 22 with his family by his side.

Born on Nov. 20, 1917, in Vermont, Bailey graduated from Rutland High School and later attended Syracuse University where he ran track and cross country.

Bailey graduated from Yale Divinity School. In April of 1943 he was ordained Deacon at the Troy Annual Conference United Methodist Church and in June of 1945 he became an Elder.

On April 21, 1943, Bailey married his sweetheart Mavis McCarthy. Together they traveled serving United Methodist Churches in Westchester, Connecticut, and upstate New York.

In 1982, Bailey retired from the New York United Methodist Conference yet continued as a retired visitation minister.

Bailey's greatest love was the time he was able to spend with his beloved family, especially his granddaughters and great-granddaughter.
