WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Francesco Tassone of White Plains died July 2 after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 73.
He was born Dec. 4, 1937, in San Vito Sull'Ionio, Italy, the second child of Vito Tassone and Maria Teresa Lamberti-Tassone. A carpenter and cabinet-maker, Tassone emigrated to Venezuela in 1958 and settled in the town of Barinas. There, he met his companion, Maria Velazquez, had two daughters and ran a cabinetry and furniture-making business.
In 1986, Tassone emigrated to the U.S. and settled in White Plains. Known as "Ciccio" by those closest to him, he retired from White Birch Builders in Greenwich, Conn.
He enjoyed raising a vegetable garden, making homemade wine and spending time in the company of relatives and friends, including fellow members of Antonio Meucci Lodge of the Order of Sons of Italy.
Tassone was predeceased by a sister, Caterina "Rina" Tassone-D'Agostino. He is survived by two daughters, Maria Teresa (John) Glynn, of Yorktown Heights, and Elizabeth Tassone-Downs, of Pawling, N.Y.; a brother, Joseph (Rose) Tassone Sr., of North White Plains; a grandson; two nephews and four nieces.
Visiting hours are from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hawthorne Funeral Home . A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in White Plains. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
