WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Elizabeth "Betty" Mercer died Saturday, April 23, at the Greenwich Woods Nursing home in Greenwich, Conn.She was 81.
She was born in White Plains on July 14, 1934, the daughter of William C. And Emma S. Von Rein.
She was educated in the White Plains School system, later attending Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ.
Upon returning to White Plains, she accepted a position with General Motors Acceptance Corp. as secretary to the branch manager.
She married Harold Mercer, Jr. on May 18, 1957 and together they raised two children, Ellen and William.She also five granddaughters, Elizabeth, Katherine, Meredith Papera and Caroline and Margaret Mercer. She was a member of The Woman's Club of White Plains and enjoyed being a volunteer at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital working in the gift shop.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 26, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Ave. in White Plains.
The funeral service will be celebrated at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 3 Carhart Ave. in White Plains, on Wednesday, April 27, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at White Plains Rural Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 3 Carhart Ave., White Plains, NY, 10605.
