DANBURY, Conn. - Elizabeth "Liz" A. Disbrow (nee Dockery) of Danbury died Sunday, May 4. She was 78.
Disbrow was born March 26, 1936, in Brooklyn and raised in White Plains, N.Y., and spent the majority of her adult life in Rye, N.Y., Brookfield and Danbury. She graduated from Good Counsel Academy in White Plains, N.Y., and Columbia Presbyterian University with a degree in nursing. She spent the majority of her career as a registered nurse, specializing in both geriatric and psychiatric care, at St Vincent's Hospital as well as performing private duty and VNA services in New York, Connecticut, and Maryland. Although officially retired, she founded the Parish Nurse Program at St Marguerite Bourgeoys Church in Brookfield.
Disbrow is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Robert) Chapderlane of Rye, N.Y., Mary Elizabeth (David) Lancaster of Dover, N.H., Catherine Disbrow of Jacksonville, Fla.; sons, Richard (Nancy) Disbrow of Southbury and William (Christine) of Rye; 10 grandchildren; and siblings, Mary, Martin, Eileen, Emmitt, Una and John. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard; parents, Martin and Katherine Dockery; and son-in-law, Lt. Stephen Brown, USN.
Calling hours are Thursday, May 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury CT 06810. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 9 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, Brookfield. Burial will be at the direction of the family at a later date.
