Doris Marie Salerno, 85, Of White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Doris Marie Salerno, of White Plains, died Oct. 18, 2015, at White Plains Hospital. She was 85.

Salerno was born Oct. 1, 1930, at St. Agnes Hospital in White Plains to Thomas and Dorothy (Austin) McAvoy. She was married to her husband Michael A. Salerno in Scarsdale on Oct. 15, 1950; he predeceased her June 9, 2004.

Salerno had various volunteer positions in the White Plains public school system, and also worked as a secretary for The Holy Child School in Rye. She was a dedicated homemaker, avid reader, quilter and history buff.

In retirement, Doris and Mike enjoyed 15 years as the innkeepers of Austin Manor in upstate New York. It was a restored 1850s farm house named for Doris' mother Dorothy Austin.

Salerno is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Cindy and Steven Cute (Brandon, Brianna and Blake), grandchildren: Bailey, Kaiden, Peyton, Tiana and Kian, Elizabeth & Scott Bogart (Austin and Tyler), Sara and Stephen Rosen, Michael and Maureen Salerno (Robert, Patrick and William) and Patricia Salerno (Jake and Hannah). She also is survived by her brother, Thomas McAvoy, of Delaware, his six children, their spouses and many great-nieces and nephews.

Visiting will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home, 491 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains.

There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gate of Heaven; arrive at the funeral home by 10 a.m. if following in the procession to the cemetery.
