Charles Messler Jr., 88, White Plains WWII Veteran

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Charles Clifford Messler Jr. of White Plains died June 20. He was 88.

He was born March 18, 1924, in Mount Vernon. Messler was married to his wife, Dorothy, for 60 years. A World War II veteran, he served as an original member of the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division.

Messler worked at NCR Corp. for 37 years. He enjoyed camping and was active with troop 11 of the Boy Scouts.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; four daughters, Patty (Larry) Hanley, Dottie (Charles) Chilcutt, Cathy (Don) Poulin and Chrissy (Mike) Hritz; a son, James Messler; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Charles Messler; and a granddaughter, Sarah Poulin.

Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at McMahon, Lyon and Hartnett Funeral Home in White Plains. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Children's Cancer Fund or Boy Scouts of America.
