Caroline Marie Pavia, 79, Longtime Turn Of River School Secretary

STAMFORD, Conn. — Caroline Marie Pavia, a lifelong resident of Stamford, died Tuesday March 5, 2013, following a car accident. She was 79.

Pavia was born in Stamford on Nov. 6, 1933, daughter of Anthony and Anna Greco DeSimone. She attended Stamford schools, graduating from Mother of God Academy in the class of 1951.

Following graduation she went to work as a secretary at the Dodge Motor Company and then at Condé Nast. Later she went to work for the Stamford Public Schools, serving as school secretary at Turn of River Middle School for 34 years.

She also was actively involved in the Stamford Hospital Bennett Center's Hope in Motion events. Carol was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic church.

Pavia is survived by her sons Anthony (Wendy) Pavia, and Stamford Police Officer Paul (Kelly) Pavia; two sons-in-law Robert Schriefer and Thomas Perretta; sister Marie Morgera, sisters-in-law Chickie Pavia, Jeanette Pavia, Vita Smith, brother-in-law Kenneth D'Andrea and many cousins, nieces and nephews including Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia. She was predeceased by her parents and husband, Paul; two daughters Roseann Schriefer and Susan Perretta; her brothers-in- law Nicholas Pavia, Jack Pavia, Bill Smith and John Morgera and granddaughter Stephanie Schriefer.

Calling hours are Tuesday March 12, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.at the funeral home. A funeral procession will leave Wednesday March 13 at 8:45 a.m.from the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuylar Ave. Stamford. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road Stamford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Pavia’s name to the Marion's of Immaculate Conception, Marian Helpers, Eden Hill, Stockbridge MA 01263.
