Beatrice Gavin, 85, Formerly of White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Beatrice Cleary Murphy Gavin, a former longtime resident of White Plains, died July 1 at White Plains Hospital. She was 85. 

Gavin was born March 20, 1927, to James M. Cleary Sr. and Catherine Ward Cleary. Known as "Bea," she graduated from White Plains High School in 1945. Gavin also attended the American Institute of Banking. 

She worked as an administrative assistant at the Bank of New York for 46 years until her retirement in 1992. Gavin was active in St. John the Evangelist Church and volunteered with the religious education office. She also served as coordinator of the church outreach program and as a member of the 50/50 Club. 

Gavin donated to many Catholic charities and organizations. She was a member of Westchester Hills Country Club and enjoyed traveling. She was a resident of The Osborn in Rye for the last three years. 

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at McMahon, Lyon and Hartnett Funeral Home in White Plains. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Church, with the Rev. Timothy Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in White Plains 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the parish religious education programs at St. John the Evangelist Church or St. Teresa of Avila Church in Sleepy Hollow.
