The Barnes & Noble program provides students with the opportunity to tell their communities how much they appreciate the educators in their schools. Students nominated educators by writing essays, poems, or letters sharing how this person influenced their life and why they appreciate and admire them.

McGuinn was nominated by Londyn Harris a student at Eastview who wrote an essay outlining the various ways in which McGuinn has had a positive impact on her and fellow students.

The reception was led by Superintendent of Schools Tim Connors and the White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach.
