Dreaming of a white Christmas may be the closest area residents will come to actually seeing it with a record high already achieved Thursday.

Temperatures should reach well into the 70s Thursday. There could be lingering showers, but most of the day should be a cloudy. There is a chance of scattered thunderstorms before noon.

The shower chance continues through Christmas Eve evening with patchy fog and a low temperature between 52 and 54 degrees.

The record high for this date, Dec. 24, in Central Park had been 63 degrees, which was broken at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, making for the warmest Christmas Eve on record in New York City. In fact, the city could see a high temperature Christmas Eve of 74.

Christmas Day will remain unseasonably warm with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 60s.

There will be patchy fog in parts of the area prior to 8 a.m. Christmas Day.

Temperatures will hover in the mid-to-high 50s through the weekend.
