WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- White Plains will receive more than $700,000 to help improve and maintain its local roads.

The money, part of the state's Consolidated Highway Improvements Funds (CHIPS), will be an increase over what the city received last year.

White Plains will get $711,789.09. That's an increase of $28,880.44 from last year, said State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D,I, WF-35).

“After several years of stagnant funding of CHIPS, this is welcome news for the localities here in Westchester County that have been struggling to provide much needed improvements to our aging infrastructure while at the same time keeping property taxes under control," said Stewart-Cousins, who represents White Plains. "I was pleased to support this portion of the budget that will improve the quality of life of our residents by making our communities more safe and helping to alleviate the property tax burden.”

Nearby, Scarsdale will receive $416,206.90, in funding, an increase of $87,267.39. New Rochelle will get $1,127,930.21, an increase of $167,707.38. Yonkers was the big winner with $1,872,043.52, a $352,138.46 increase.
