WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Sandra Bernard-Wright of White Plains stopped to enjoy samples of water from nine Westchester water suppliers participating in this year's water taste contest, won by Cortlandt Consolidated Water District.
The blind taste test, held on Martine Avenue Tuesday afternoon, is part of National Drinking Water Week, which promotes safe drinking water.
Like Bernard-Wright, Emi Foraro voted for Elmsford, which was labeled "I" and came in third place with 27 votes. Greenburgh Consolidated Water District #1, labeled "A," came in second with 40 votes and Cortlandt, labeled "D," came in first with 45 votes.
The other participants were labeled as follows in the blind taste contest Tuesday:
- B City of White Plains
- C City of Yonkers
- E - United Water New Rochelle
- F City of Peekskill
- G Ossining Village
- H - Westchester County District # 3
"They're all good," Rob Astorino, Westchester County Executive, said in a press release. "Westchester's very lucky to have terrific water supplies throughout the county."
Past winners include United Water New Rochelle in 2011 and 2005, Ossining in 2010, Yonkers in 2009, 2007, 2004 and 2003, and Croton on Hudson in 2008 and 2006
"The annual drinking water contest is a great way to showcase the fine quality of our public water supply," Sherlita Amler, commissioner of health, said in a press release. "The local, county and state professionals who monitor our public water systems to ensure safe drinking water for county residents deserve our thanks."
