Business Insider researched U.S. cities with populations between 50,000 and 60,000 and ranked them in six categories: Live music per capita, number of fast food restaurants (the fewer the better), nightlife venues per capita, active life venues per capita, non-fast food restaurant percentage, and young residents.
White Plains excelled in non-fast food restaurants, with a No.8 ranking, but languished in categories like active life and young residents, ranking No. 81 and No. 47 in the two categories, respectively.
The only other small city in New York to make the list was Hempstead, on Long Island, which ranked 32nd.
Hoboken, N.J. took top honors, easily beating the no. 2 small city, La Crosse, Wis.
