WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The White Plains Department of Public Safety received an honorable mention at the 2014 Victim Services Award ceremony hosted by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and LogIn Inc.
The department was recognized for Project TRUST, an innovative and successful partnership between law enforcement and three community-based organizations committed to reducing violence against women and delivering services to the under-served immigrant and disabled communities.
The three community partners are Pace Women’s Justice Center, Westchester Independent Living Center and El Centro Hispano Inc.
Program funding comes from the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Violence Against Women, which has just funded the program for another three years. It is an alliance of TRUST that fosters collaboration and holistic services delivered to victims by the partnering agencies.
Each agency recognizes the long-term solutions needed can be achieved only with a sustained, multi-disciplinary and coordinated response. In addition to enforcement, the program promotes community education, treatment and empowerment.
