This three or six week program for kids aged 14 and up will be held from July 7 to August 15. Students meet at the theater on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Participants will also engage in camp-wide activities such as field trips and events.
PGT’s professional teaching artists will lead students through hands-on studies of topics including costuming, lighting, set design and prop making, according to a press release. Students will also fill roles such as light board operator, sound effects operator and stage manager during tech week and performances.
The program will culminate on Aug. 15 with the production of the Main Stage Summer Show at the theater’s 228-seat complex. Students will work with the PGT’s professional designers and technicians during the design phase and production of the Main Stage Summer Show.
“Many kids want to learn the technical skills involved with staging a production, and be part of the magic that happens backstage,” said PGT Artistic Director Jill Abusch in a press release. “This program will introduce them to a variety of disciplines and allow them to immerse themselves in their chosen fields. Taking classes is an important aspect of the program. Costumers understand how to design costumes for the actor when they know how the actor moves. Set designers understand how to structure the space on a stage when they understand what motivates a scene.”
The Play Group Theater is a non-profit organization committed to providing theater training and diverse performance opportunities to children and teenagers, according to a press release.
