WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A woman caught shoplifting at Sears took punishment into her own hands, according to police, who say the 27-year-old choked herself after being stopped by loss prevention Tuesday.
A Sears employee told police he saw Duran Rosalba, of White Plains, stash four pairs of earrings and three necklaces into her baby bag. She then stuffed a shirt, scarf and earmuffs beside her 2-year-old in a stroller, according to police.
Police say loss prevention detained her after she left the Galleria Mall store with $568.43 in stolen goods. Rosalba then wrapped the straps of her baby bag around her neck and choked herself by twisting the straps, according to police reports.
Sears staff cut the straps and rushed her to the White Plains Hospital emergency room.
Rosalba was charged with one count of petit larceny, a misdemeanor, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
