Gomez was Port Chester's director of planning and development the past three years. He will start July 7 in the job that pays $145,000 annually.
In Port Chester, Gomez was credited with leading the adoption of the village’s comprehensive plan, Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan, and substantial zoning map and text amendments.
Gomez is a proponent of utilizing digital technology in real time to assist in the review of projects and better engage the public.
While at the Westchester County Department of Planning, Gomez served as co-manager and consultant land use planner to 43 cities, towns and villages in delivering Westchester 2025/Plan Together, the county’s long-range regional planning initiative. He also served as the Westchester County Historic Preservation Planner.
As a transportation planner for the New York City Department of Transportation, Gomez managed New York state and New York City multi-modal funding programs used to finance transportation improvement in Manhattan.

Gomez received his bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University and a master’s degree in urban planning from Columbia University.
He succeeds Elizabeth Cheteny, who was dismissed in January after two years as planning commissioner.
