White Plains Groups To Host Poverty Meeting Tuesday

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- White Plains residents are set to gather Tuesday evening for a discussion of the "ongoing poverty crisis."

Residents are invited to the meeting at 6 p.m., at the Thomas H. Slater Center at 2 Fisher Court in White Plains, according to the release. Community members will gather during the meeting to "consider the state of poverty in White Plains and brainstorm ways to address the root causes," according to the release. 

The "Poverty Community Meeting & Strategy Session" will be hosted by Community Voices Heard, Westchester MLK Institute for Nonviolence, WESPAC and White Plains residents, according to the release. The meeting includes "a presentation on poverty in the United States and locally in Westchester, followed by breakout sessions on issues including education and crime, housing, as well as employment and transportation," according to the release.

Representatives said similar meetings are being scheduled for Mount Vernon, Peekskill and Port Chester and the meetings will help "inform a larger 'poverty summit' that will take place in Westchester in late January 2014," according to the release.
