WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Residents can cool off Thursday from the heat wave at White Plains' Gardella Park Pool, a day earlier than the facility was originally scheduled to open, said Karen Pasquale of the mayor's office.
The Kittrel Park Pool on Fisher Avenue will open Friday as regularly scheduled. On Thursday, the Gardella Park Pool on Ferris Avenue will open from noon to 8 p.m. to give residents a break from the heat. Both pools will be open daily from noon to 6:30 p.m. until Sept. 1.
"Tomorrow and Friday are the last days of school, so the kids get out at 12 and the pools will be open then and into the evening," Pasquale said Wednesday. "We think we'll get a good response to the pools."
The Kittrel pool will be open an extra hour every Wednesday and the Gardella Park Pools will stay open an hour later every Thursday.
"During periods of high heat, we'll keep the pools open later than 6:30 on days other than the late nights," Pasquale said.
Proof of residency is required to use the Gardella Pool on Thursday, but admission is free. To use either pool, residents need a White Plains Recreation I.D. card, which can be acquired at the recreation and parks department on 85 Gedney Way. For more information, call 914-422-1336.
The Saxon Woods Pool also opens Friday and operates seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. through Aug. 19. Admittance, including parking, is $6 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under and $4 for seniors on weekdays only. A park pass or proof of residency is required.
