The New York Lottery on Wednesday announced the jackpot for Friday's Mega Millions drawing has grown to $425 million with the drawing set for 10:59 p.m.

According to New York's Lottery officials, the $56 million jump from Tuesday's jackpot is due to active sales across all 44 participating Mega Millions states Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The new jackpot marks the second largest Mega Millions jackpot in the game's 11-year history since New York joined the game. The jackpot has not been at this level since March 2012 when a $363 million jackpot had no winner resulting in the largest Mega Millions jackpot of $656 million for the March 30, 2012 drawing.

No one has won the Mega's first prize since the number picking format was changed in October. Five numbers are now drawn from a pool of 75 white balls, as opposed to the 56 that were available prior to Oct. 19.

The number of gold Mega Balls, however, decreased to 15 from 46. The tweak pushed the odds of winning the jackpot from about 175 million to 1 to about 259 million to 1.

Drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 10:59 p.m. and broadcast locally on WABC-TV Channel 7.
