WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Delfino Park's newest playground will be fully accessible to children with disabilities beginning Monday.

Delfino Park's new playground will sport an array of slides, ramps, spinners, climbers, a play wall and a poured-in-place rubberized surface that will be fully accessible for all children ages 2-12 to enjoy.

The park is fully American Disability Association (ADA) compliant, according to White Plains Commissioner of Recreation and Parks Wayne Bass.

Most notably the poured-in rubberized surface will allow wheelchairs and walkers to glide much easier than standard Fibar.

"If you had to push someone on Fibar, it would not be easy," Bass said, "This surface will allow parents to push kids easier, and kids will be able to move on their own."

The playground was also designed to include equipment that would provide children with disabilities the ability to play alongside their peers.

“This type of playground will become our new standard,” said Mayor Thomas Roach in a statement. “As we are able, we will upgrade the city’s other play structures in this same manner so that the end result at each will be a safe and inclusive playground for all children, no matter what their ability.”

The park will be unveiled at 4 p.m. It's at 110 Lake St., and ample parking is available onsite.
