WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – White Plains Council member Ben Boykin has announced that he will run for Westchester County legislator for District 5.

District 5 covers most of White Plains, all of Scarsdale and a portion of Harrison. The incumbent, Democrat Bill Ryan announced his candidacy for County Executive in October and will not seek re-election in 2013.

Boykin, who made his announcement Friday morning, has been a member of the council since 2000, serving as council president three times. He previously served seven years on the White Plains School Board.

The father of two graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in 1981.

He is president of Ben Boykin & Associates, a financial consulting firm.

“I will work to bring more transparency to the county’s budget process and implement budgets that protect the most vulnerable among us, provide safety and security for our citizens, provide opportunities for economic development and job creation and protect our environment,” Boykin said in statement.

“I will fight for better coordination and working relationships between the county government and our villages, towns and cities to tackle and solve mutual issues in order to enhance our quality of life.”
