White Plains Conservatory Hosts Golf, Tennis Fundraiser

ARMONK, N.Y. -- The Broadway at the Music Conservatory of Westchester held its 13th annual Golf & Tennis Classic the Whippoorwill Club in Armonk on Monday, June 23.

More than 70 people played golf and tennis and were joined by about 100 more guests for a Broadway revue dinner, which honored luminaries Barbara Cook and John Mauceri.

The classic raised more than $110,000 for the White Plains-based not-for-profit community music school.

Proceeds will go toward scholarships for low-income youths. The conservatory provides $100,000 in scholarship assistance each year for about 80-85 students, as well as music therapy for children with disabilities. The conservatory's new Healing Our Heroes program provides music therapy and music instruction for returning military veterans.

“It was a wonderful event from start to finish, and the funds we raised will help support our scholarship program which is so vital to the conservatory’s mission. It was such a thrill to honor two luminaries in the music world and to have Broadway stars shining for the conservatory,” Executive Director Jean Newton said.

Cook and Mauceri were honored by the conservatory with Lifetime Achievement Awards, and five Broadway stars paid tribute to their accomplishments as well as other notable Broadway productions with a medley of tunes from the Great White Way.

Dobbs Ferry-based Broadway veteran John Treacy Egan emceed the event. He was joined by Montego Glover, who received a Tony Award nomination for Lead Actress in a Musical for "Memphis"; two-time Tony nominee Laura Osnes ("Bonnie & Clyde" and "Cinderella"); "Next to Normal" Tony winner Alice Ripley; and Yorktown Heights resident and "Les Miserables" star Craig Schulman.
