SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Women in Eastchester, Bronxville, Scarsdale and White Plains will be a part of the largest single-day volunteer activity of the year as they pitch in to clean up the Bronx River.

The Junior League of Central Westchester (JLCW), with the help of the Bronx River Parkway Reservation Conservancy, will participate in “Pitch in for Parks,” one of the most important events of the year for Westchester County parks.

The Reservation is a natural feature along the 12.5 mile stretch from the Bronx border to the Kensico Dam. It provides green space, passing through densely populated areas in Yonkers, Mount Vernon and White Plains.

The JLCW is recruiting more female volunteers to participate in the effort, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 14.

The League’s participation is being coordinated by the “Done in a Day” committee, and will be staffed by volunteers from JLCW members and family members. The efforts will focus on vine-cutting and trash removal.

Trash bags, disposable gloves and tools for cutting vines will be provided to volunteers, though it is recommended that one brings heavy-duty garden gloves.

Volunteers can meet at the pathway north of the Harney Road entrance between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Parking will be available on Garth Road.
