WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Purple weaved around the Church Street Elementary School gym Wednesday afternoon as hundreds of students, teachers, parents, donned the elementary schools color while receiving the $10,000 check Church Street's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) earned in the Better Schools Bonanza contest.
Students greeted Principal Darrell Stinchcombs announcement that they had earned an ice cream party and the right to party like its 1999 with cheers. Stinchcomb said winning the contest was a great way to elevate the school spirit Church Street has been focusing on.
What we want to do is say thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who has come together. This all started way before the contest. We wanted to build school spirit here at Church Street school. We talked about wearing purple every Friday. We reiterated school rules, he said. Now, were here to show everyone that Church Street is the number one school in Westchester.
Main Street Connect Founder Carll Tucker and Entergy, who sponsored the Better Schools Bonanza contest in Westchester, presented school staff and PTA Co-Presidents Jill Friedman and Jen Demilio with the $10,000 grand prize check Church Street earned while racking up 14,500 votes, 3,5000 more than the second place school, during the 30-day contest.
Friedman thanked Church Street families and PTA Board Member Bernadette Lecceese, who organized the schools voting, for their commitment.
It is our pleasure to represent the PTA as we move forward in helping this school to soar to new heights, said Friedman. We look forward to being with all of you as we all decide how to allocate and spend this money to make your life here at Church Street even more fruitful, even more educational, and a whole lot more fun.
