WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — A free lecture on President Barack Obama's energy and climate policy, special Common Council meeting and Sculpture: On and Off the Wall opening at ArtsWestchester are just some White Plains events scheduled this week.

Monday

- The library is hosting a conversation group for adults speaking English as a second language from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

- Pace Law School is holding a free lecture on climate and energy policy in the Obama Administration led by Jody Freeman, who founded and directs Harvard Law School's Environmental Law Program. Freeman served as a counselor for energy and climate to President Barack Obama in 2009 and 2010. The 5 p.m. event requires reservations. Call 914-422-4413 to reserve a spot.

- Those 16 or older working on earning a GED are welcome to attend a preparation class at the library from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

- The Common Council will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. to discuss site plan changes at Congregation Kol Ami, capital projects to improve Gillie Park and the New Well Field Orchard Street Pump Station, as well as proposed amendments to the 1997 Comprehensive Plan. The council anticipates entering executive session to discuss a lawsuit from Merchants Insurance Group.

- The Board of Education will hold do its final review of the proposed school budget in a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the education house.

Tuesday

- The library's Trove will have an "It's Raining, It's Pouring" story time for families with 2- to 3-year-olds. Tickets will be given out 30 minutes before the 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. readings.

- First- through fifth-graders are invited to learn about picture book art and then make their own projects at the library Trove from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

- The Ridgeway PTA Playground Committee invites White Plains to a Zumba fundraising workout in the elementary school gym. Tickets to the 7:15 p.m.-8:15 p.m. class are $10 or $90 for a 10-class session. Proceeds will help Ridgeway replace its playground.

Wednesday

- The library's Trove will hold an "On the Farm" story time and craft activity for 4- to 5-year-olds. Tickets will be given out 30 minutes prior to the 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. events.

- Teens are invited to a 6 p.m. dollar bill origami class at the library. Bills and snacks will be provided.

Thursday

- The library is hosting a conversation group for adults speaking English as a second language from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

- Children ages 3 and older with adult accompaniment are invited to "Silly Singalong and Stories" at 2 p.m. in the library's Galaxy Hall.

- The library is holding a Wii tournament for those in grades one through five in the Trove. Tickets will be given out 30 minutes before the games kick off at 4:30 p.m.

- The White Plains Police Benevolent Association is hosting a fundraiser at the Porter House Bar and Grille to help send officers on the 29th Annual Unity Tour. The 7 p.m. fundraiser will feature raffle prizes, an open bar and food. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased by calling Detective Bryan Hembury at 914-422-6200. Proceeds will support White Plains officers biking from the Sept. 11 memorial to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., to raise awareness for police who've died in the line of duty.
