What's Happening in White Plains this Week

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Here's a look at what's happening in White Plains this week:

Monday

- The Board of Education will unveil part of the proposed instructional budget for 2012 to 2013 academic year at a 7:30 p.m. forum in the Education House. 

- The White Plains High School Foundation for the Advancement of International Studies has invited Edward Ballen, founder and executive director of the Rwanda Education Assistance Program, to speak about his work developing public schools in rural Rwanda. The talk will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the high school media center.

- The RDC Center for Counseling and Human Development will host a free networking support group for those out of work from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at 52 N. Broadway. 

- The library will be closed Monday.

Tuesday

- The Harlem Globetrotters will perform at the Westchester County Center at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $21.50 to $116.50. Call (914) 995-4050 for more details.

- Caregivers along with their 2-year old and 3-year old charges are invited to a "Be My Valentine" story time in The Trove. Tickets will be given out 30 minutes before the 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. readings.

Wednesday

- The design review board will convene in the council chambers at 7 p.m.

- The traffic commission will convene in City Hall at 8:30 a.m.

- White Plains seniors are invited to a Valentine's Day ball from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at 65 Mitchell Place. Youth bureau students will help run the evening.

- Westchester S.C.O.R.E. will host a free seminar on marketing, advertising, and public relations beginning at 1 p.m. at 120 Bloomingdale Road.

- Calling all 4 and 5-year old kids with adult supervision. You are welcome to attend a "Monsters" story time and craft. Tickets will be given out a half an hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. readings.

- Collegewise will give a free seminar about the college search in Room B from 6 to 7 p.m.

- Families with 3-year-olds and older children are invited to a silly singalong and story in Galaxy Hall at 7 p.m.

Thursday

-The recreation advisory committee will meet at 85 Gedney Way at 7:30 p.m.

- Parents and their 13 to 36-month-olds are invited to social, play, craft and sing together. Experts will be informally available to informally discuss nutrition and child development. Pre-registration is required for the 10 a.m. event. Call (914) 422-1476 for details.

 - The library will sponsor an Internet Explorer basics class from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m.

- Adults speaking English as a second language are invited to converse together from 2 to 3 p.m.

- Galaxy Hall will hold a silly singalong and story for 3-year-olds and older and accompanying adults at 2 p.m.

- Children in grades one through five are welcome to compete in Wii games at The Trove from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Friday

At the library:

- Caregivers and children between 20 and 29 months-old are welcome to attend a "Kittens and Cat Tales" session. Tickets will be given out 30 minutes prior to the 1 p.m. reading.
