WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Events happening around White Plains this week include an Ice Cream Read & Feast at the library.

Monday, July 2

Big Ice Cream Read & Feast : 2 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Listen to stories and learn about ice cream. Families can make and enjoy this cool and tasty treat. The program, best for children in grades 2 through 6, will be held again at 4 p.m. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Board of Education Meeting : 7:30 p.m. The White Plains Board of Education will hold its organizational meeting, followed by its regular meeting at the Education House, 5 Homeside Lane.

Common Council Meeting : 7:30 p.m. The Common Council will hold public hearings on an amendment to the 1997 Comprehensive Plan that would allow retail and residential developments in the C-O Zoning District, currently zoned only for office use, and on a special permit to allow the new 10-story Winbrook apartment building on South Lexington Avenue and Quarropas Street. White Plains City Hall, 237 Martine Ave.

Tuesday, July 3

Time for 2s and 3s — “Happy Birthday Everyone” : 11 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Songs, games, activities and stories for 2- and 3-year-olds and their caregivers. The program will be held again at 1 p.m. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Kensico Dam Music Fest: 6 p.m.-10 p.m. This free annual event features a performance by the Bensen-Scott Big Band. Pre-concert entertainment will begin at 6 p.m. and the band will perform at 8 p.m. At approximately 9:15 p.m., the fireworks display will begin. The Kensico Dam Plaza is located at the north end of the Bronx River Parkway in Valhalla. It can be reached via Route 22 or the Taconic State Parkway.

Wednesday, July 4

White Plains Farmers Market : 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The market is on Court Street between Martine Avenue and Main Street, and will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Nov. 21.

Rye Playland Fireworks Display : 9:30 p.m. A computer-fired and choreographed fireworks display will be set to a musical soundtrack. The display will also be held at 9:15 p.m. July 6. 100 Playland Parkway, Rye.

Thursday, July 5

Youth Board : 7 p.m. The White Plains Youth Bureau’s Youth Board will hold its monthly meeting, in which Program Director Frank Williams reports to the board on its activities. 11 Amherst Place.
