WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A Caribbean-American heritage celebration, computer lessons in Spanish, a poetry slam and tips for teens from "Twilight" are among events happening around White Plains this week.

Monday, June 4

Board of Education Meeting : 7:30 p.m. The White Plains Board of Education will hold a special meeting at Education House, 5 Homeside Lane.

Caribbean-American Heritage Month Celebration : 6:30 p.m. The late Dwight "Heavy D" Errington Myers and Vincent HoSang, president and CEO of Caribbean Food Delights, will be honored. "Heavy D," born in Jamaica, led the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz. Michaelian Office Building, 148 Martine Ave., eighth floor.

Westchester County Board of Legislators : 7 p.m. Majority Leader Peter Harckham will present proclamations to the members of the Westchester County Special Operations’ All Volunteer Technical Rescue Team. Michaelian Office Building, 148 Martine Ave., eighth floor.

Common Council Meeting : 7:30 p.m. The White Plains Common Council will hold a public hearing to consider an amendment to its Comprehensive Plan that would allow residential and retail development in the campus office zoning district (comprising portions of Westchester Avenue and Mamaroneck Avenue), in addition to offices. White Plains Farmers Market : 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The market is on Court Street between Martine Avenue and Main Street, and will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Nov. 21.

Tips Learned From "Twilight" : 2 - 5 p.m. The White Plains Public Library will hold a screening of "Twilight," pizza and refreshments included. A presentation and interactive Healthy Relationships/Anti Teen Dating Violence workshop will follow and is based on the message in the film. 100 Martine Ave.

Poetry Slam and Open Mic : 6:30 p.m. The White Plains Public Library's Open Mic, SLAM competition continues with guest poet Jeanann Verlee, director of the Urbana Poetry Slam at the Bowery Poetry Club in Manhattan and winner of the Sandy Crimmins National Prize for Poetry. Those interested should bring two original poems of up to three minutes each. Thursday, June 7

Mouse and Windows Skills : 10:15 a.m. Learn how to use the mouse, including point and click, pull-down menus and scroll bars. Students will also learn basic Windows functions such as opening and closing programs, minimize/maximize and how to start a computer session. Job Fair : 12 - 4:30 p.m. A wide variety of employers will participate in this job fair, which will include a workshop and is free and open to all.
