What To Do In White Plains This Week

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A cheerleading competition, a kitchen chemistry science lab and a Thanksgiving-themed storytime at the library are a few of the events happening in White Plains this week.

Monday, Nov. 19

Asana Workshop : 9 a.m. The Digital Arts Experience will hold a free workshop on Asana, a cloud-based productivity tool focused on group productivity that allows for simple communication between group members on tasks. Because it is cloud-based, it is accessible from anywhere. Microsoft Store, Westcheser Mall, 135 Westchester Ave.

64th Annual Westchester County Cheerleading Invitational : 4 – 9 p.m. Monday, modified/junior varsity will compete from 4 to 5:30 p.m., followed by varsity from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, junior varsity competes from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. followed by varsity from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The grand championship will then be held from 8 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets for adults are $8, students $5 (school ID is required and children ages 12 and under $5, and can be bought at the Westchester County Center box office. Tuesday Nov. 20

Kitchen Chemistry Science Lab : 4:30 – 5 p.m. Experiment and learn about easy chemistry using common items found in the kitchen. This program is for children in grades 1 to 4. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

The Art of Storytelling : 7 – 8 p.m. Participants – grades 6 to 8 - will learn fundamentals of designing a character, including figure drawing, how to create a layout, specific angle shots and their meaning, what not to do, and continuity. Registration is not required, but can be done online . White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Wednesday, Nov. 21

Stories & Stuff – “Thanksgiving” : 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Preschoolers ages 4 and 5 can enjoy a story and craft activity, both of which are related to Thanksgiving. This program will be held again from 2 to 2:30 p.m. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.

Thursday, Nov. 22, Thanksgiving

Volunteer at a Soup Kitchen :  9 a.m. – noon. Volunteers are needed to help serve holiday meals on Thanksgiving. To volunteer or donate call Emily Gallagher at 914-949-3098, ext. 9735 . Grace Church Community Center, 33 Church St.
