WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Thanksgiving is celebrated across the country, but many Westchester County families have their own traditions that make the holiday unique and special to them. In turn, each person has his or her own favorite part.

"It's all about the turkey,” said Roger Gregory of New Rochelle, "I'm the only one in my family that likes dark meat, so I just grab a leg and watch whatever football game is on. I'm not much for stuffing or sides, but there's always mashed potatoes on my plate."

Nancy Noto of Yorktown enjoys cooking turkey, stuffing and sweet potatoes with her husband.

Katy Fetzer of Mamaroneck said, "My favorite part is my aunt's sweet potato casserole."

Eastchester resident Nuru Hunter said, "My mother makes the best apple pie, so it's something to look forward to every year."

Ritamarie Caiati of Somers, loves getting some time to relax.

“My daughter-in-law does all the cooking," she said, "It's wonderful."

Lauren Kavanagh of Eastchester said, "My favorite things about Thanksgiving are spending time with family and friends, eating my favorite meal, and watching "March of the Wooden Soldiers," of course."

Michael Quituisaca of New Rochelle said, "I love arguing with my family and eating red beans and rice.”

Jan Marino of Yorktown treasures giving thanks with her family.

"It's great fun," she said. "I love being with my family. It's a wonderful time to be thankful.”

Jenna Rodcay of West Harrison said, "I'm spending Thanksgiving with friends and family from Britain, Canada, China, Pakistan and America. I'm thankful to be coming together with the people I love and celebrating Thanksgiving the way it's supposed to be."

Peekskill resident Carla Rae Johnson enjoys celebrating the holiday, but not at the expense of a poor turkey.

"I'm a vegetarian, so I love tofurkey,” she said.

Carol Fanelli of Somers said reuniting with her family is her favorite part.

"I love when my kids come home and everybody helps,” she said.
