WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The Westchester County Association recalled Al DelBello as a friend and one of Westchester County's business leaders in a tribute on Monday.

DelBello , a Lewisboro resident who served as mayor of Yonkers, Westchester county executive and lieutenant governor died on Friday. He was 80 years old. WCA is one of the major drivers of business development in the county.

"We are deeply saddened at the passing of Al DelBello, our chairman emeritus and one of Westchester County’s greatest visionaries,'' Westchester County Association CEO William M. Mooney Jr. said in a release. "Al saw what was possible and masterfully moved sometimes implacable forces in order to improve the quality of life for all those living and working here. He understood human nature and skillfully brought people along -- not an easy task in what was often a contentious and boisterous political arena.

"Al was an astute observer and a careful listener; he was persuasive and he was commanding. He fearlessly stood up for what he believed was right. So many of the WCA’s important initiatives – healthcare reform, economic development, government reform and young professionals --  were begun under his leadership. Al was proud of his heritage and maintained a deep commitment to public service throughout his life.

" Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, colleagues, and close friends. On a personal level, Al was a true mentor to me.  We communicated on an almost daily basis, and I will sorely miss his guidance and leadership.  The entire Westchester County Association joins me in sending our heartfelt condolences to his wife Dee, and son Damon.  May his life and good works be a continuing source of inspiration to us all."
