WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – The Gate Guardian, also known as “The Plane on a Stick” at the Westchester County Airport, is in a body shop, getting a fresh paint job and whatever else it needs to be in prime condition, lohud reported.
On Oct. 15, airport officials sent the plane for restoration, as their contract requires, lohud reported.
The National Naval Aviation Museum owns the airplane, a T-33 or "T-Bird,” and lends it to the Westchester County Airport on the condition that the airport maintains the plane. It had been five years since its last restoration, according to lohud.
