Department of Public Works' crews isolated the break and stopped the water leak, according to officials at City Hall..

Residents who experience a loss of water or low water pressure should see an improvement shortly, a senior advisor to Mayor Thomas Road said at about 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The water is safe to use. It may appear cloudy. If it looks cloudy, residents are advised to let it run and it will clear up, the advisor said in an email update.

Several city streets were reported closed as a result of the break, including: Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between Quarropas Street and Martine Avenue. Martine Avenue also closed -- between Mamaroneck Avenue and Bank Street, officials said late Friday afternoon.

These roadways will remain closed while city crews work on the water main, officials said.
