Tappan Zee Constructors, (TZC) began the testing the lightening systems Thursday on the westbound bridge’s roadway and will continue periodic testing of the entire system this week.

The bridge’s lighting fixtures include energy efficient LEDs, designed with 100,000-hour lifespans.

Also planned for the week is the construction of walls for the Thruway Authority’s new maintenance facility in Tarrytown, as well as continued work on the footing and retaining walls for the new State Police facility.

Thruway Authority officials said the new buildings will offer faster bridge access for Thruway personnel and the State Police who both currently operate from a temporary facility near exit 12 in West Nyack.
