WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Archbishop Stepinac football coach Mike O'Donnell and his staff were honored Thursday by the New York Giants at the Timex Performance Center at the new MetLife Stadium in New Jersey in an awards ceremony for O'Donnell, who was named the Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week last November.
ODonnells honor, which was a result of Stepinac's playoff victory against Xaverian in a Catholic High Schools Football League AAA semifinal game, came with a certificate from the NFL and a $1,000 donation to the school. O'Donnell was acknowledged at MetLife Stadium during the Giants-Philadelphia Eagles game in November.
The Crusaders, who were the CHSFL AA champions in 2010, reached the AAA final in November 2011 before losing to eventual champion St. Anthony's. O'Donnell has been head coach at Stepinac for three decades.
