WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Hundreds of White Plains residents reported power outages Monday morning, according to the Con Edison Storm Central outage map.
As of 6 p.m. Monday, 526 customers reported power outages, many of which due to down wires. This is down from the 627 reported outages as of 4 p.m.
The City of White Plains declared a state of emergency Monday and have opened a shelter for those with no other alternatives at the Post Road Elementary School.
White Plains public schools are closed Monday and city parks are closed through Wednesday morning. Residents can park in the garages on Hamilton Avenue and Main Street or Chester and Maple avenues without charge overnight until Wednesday morning at 8 a.m.
Residents are asked to report blocked storm drains to the Department of Public Works at 914-422-1333, and report storm related, non-life threatening situations to the Department of Public Works at 914-422-6111. Call 9-1-1 only for life-threatening emergencies.
The Westchester County Board of Legislators meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday has been cancelled. The White Plains Common Council special meeting has been posponed from Monday to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The White Plains Department of Public Safety also asks residents to stay home for their safety, and that of first responders.
